The town began as a vast stretch of ranch, orchard, and farmland before becoming an incorporated town in the early 20th century. A Southern Pacific Railroad stop near one of the larger nearby ranches made travel through the area easy, and a town sprung up as a result.
This affluent community is particularly known as a center of viticulture and is home to multiple innovative vineyards and wineries. Several technology sector corporations have headquarters in Morgan Hill, owing to its proximity to Silicon Valley.
